Health Care

Congressman John Barrow (D-GA) sent me a survey today regarding health care. For obvious reasons, I scrutinized each question. I had to ask myself, “How can my answer be slanted to reach an unintended conclusion?” Sorry, but I have become skeptical of all politicians.

The format of the survey was seven pages of multiple-choice questions, followed by space to comment on the proposed legislation. I took due diligence in responding as honestly as possible. I have to admit, the survey was fair. The questions spoke directly to the reservations held by those who oppose the legislation. It was not a cookie-cutter survey, intended to prop up support for a “yes” vote, but rather, more of an open forum for opposition. Congressman Barrow voted “no” on cap and tax, and I believe he is honestly searching for a reason to buck the tide again.

Congratulations Congressman for straying from party lines and actually placing value in the thoughts of your constituents. The survey was well designed and obviously took a deal of time and effort to conceive. I hope you will also expend a proportional effort in reading and reviewing the responses and conduct yourself according to the will of the people. That’s all we ask.

Towards the end of the survey there was a question that sparked a fire in me. I was so enkindled that I found myself writing and writing. I forced myself to cut the rant short in fear of over running some word count limit. Even after I had submitted my responses, my brain was steaming with idea after idea, telling me it was time for a new blog entry.

What would you propose to reform our current health care system?

WOW! I could not believe that my congressman was asking me this. He wants to know my thoughts on health care reform. Finally! One of them gets it! So I let him have it, Jack, and in this post I intend to share my thoughts with the good people of TownHall.

First and foremost, the shortcomings in our current health care system are not the problem but an effect. It is the inevitable result of an entitlement system that gives handouts to those who do not pay into the system by over-burdening those that do. We cannot keep paying for the care of illegal immigrants who continue to pour across our borders unchecked. Those who show up to the ER, sans legal documentation, should be treated, arrested, fined $1000, ordered to 100 hours of community service, and then deported back to their nation of origin. This would reduce the burden on local hospitals, legally bound to treat those in need while, at the same time, putting cash in the coffers and cleaning our streets of violators of the law. It’s a win-win-win.

Next, fix the government systems that are already in place or stop taxing me for them. Each and every working class American has Social Security and Medicare withheld via payroll deductions above and beyond state, local and federal taxes. The only people deserving of health care funded by the taxpayer are veterans, the disabled and the elderly. These programs are a prime example of government’s ineptitude in dealing with the health care of its citizens. They are both a failure and a lesson to be learned. Our government was never intended to intrude into the lives of individuals. That is not a design flaw, but rather, perfection. Our Federal Government has never, not once, nor will they ever create a successful program that exceeds that Constitutional mandate regarding the role of the Federal Government. Any attempt to do so is, by default, destined to fail. Protect me from enemies, both foreign and domestic, and that’s it. Everything the government has ever attempted, outside of that window, has failed. Yet they keep trying. Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and again and expecting different results. These few words have become more and more relevant the longer I live.

We already have Social Security to cover the elderly and disabled, Medicare and Medicaid to cover those who lack the funds to pay, The VA for our Nation’s veterans, and indignant care programs for those who do not qualify for any of the above. FIX THAT. Do not come to me demanding more tax money to fund something of a different name that I am already paying for. Don’t believe the lies. No person in this country can be denied care. It’s the law and we are already paying for it. We don’t need yet another program, run by a government that has already proven an inability to do so just because they can’t seem to fix what is already in place.

That’s my take on the programs in place. Let’s offer a few alternatives.

Tort reform is a no-brainer. A “loser pays” lawsuit system would stop frivolous lawsuits and discourage settlements out of court. This would, in turn, lower malpractice insurance and decrease the need for unnecessary tests, thus lowering overall cost to consumers.

Open our state borders to health insurance competition. Competition is the essence of a capitalist economy. That’s how we drive down prices. Offer a better product at a lower price to the consumers. Socialist societies ask that the taxpayers pay for everyone else. THEY HAVE ALL FAILED. They fail for the simple concept that, eventually, those paying can no longer support the burden of those being paid for. I am sick of RINO’s standing up and saying that we are mortgaging our children’s futures. We are destroying our nation. If we don’t stop this now, our children will be sorting through the rubble of a once great nation, similar to the archeologist sifting through the remains of the Greek and Roman civilizations.

How about dealing with the real problem? Let’s hold the people responsible for their own health choices. I smoke. It’s bad for me. I fully expect to pay more for my health insurance because, statistics show, I will become a greater burden to the system.

What about a tax credit for people who have regular check-ups and physicals? If we want to focus on preventative care, let’s provide some incentive instead of punishment.

Is a tax break for restaurants with a healthy menu out of the question?

If we are Hell-bent on spending tax dollars, why not promote more funding to local athletic and recreation departments. Taekwondo, yoga, ballet, it doesn’t matter what your preference is. Promote activity. Let’s supplement funding to the local YMCA. Promote team sports beyond public schools. Lord knows our children could use a more thorough lesson of cooperation and discipline. Allow incentive for a more healthy society and the cost of health care goes down.

It has occurred to me that the solution is simple, but is being decided by those who refuse to recognize it. Our representatives would pretend to fix a system that would be fine if they would get out of it all together. If our elected officials insist upon providing us with a solution, join me in making sure that the solution offers us more choices and not fewer.

That’s my rant, guys. Feel free to comment, protest, or (hopefully) use any part of this essay to support the Constitutionalist movement.

Email me at wcbarlow@yahoo.com if you have any qualms or questions. I welcome any topic that you would like to see me rant about.

Letter to Governor Jindal

July 2, 2009

 Dear Governor Jindal

Let me start off by saying that I am a die-hard Conservative, and I believe that you are one of the good guys. The Conservative movement is alive and well. We have been scouring the Nation, ardently searching for conservative leaders who can revive our good name and carry the Republican banner into the future. As you may well know, Governor, your name is on everyone’s short list of principled leaders who could fit the bill. I hope you will consider making a bid for President in 2012 or perhaps U.S. Senate in 2010.

Many people, as well as myself, believe that you embody many of the values and principals of Conservative America. However, I have stumbled across a video clip of The Louisiana House Chamber. Have a look at the following:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0PCQYalZU8&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fnoliberalspin%2Eblogtownhall%2Ecom%2F&feature=player_embedded

Please tell me that this is not what passes for serious government business in Louisiana. Please tell me that you were on vacation during this debacle. Please tell me that Mr. Soul Train here is not an elected representative of Louisiana. Please tell me just what in the wild world of sports was going on here.

Tell me something. Make something up if you have to. Lie to me. I don’t care, but please tell me that this is not the sort of events we can look forward to, should you decide to run for higher office.

 Cordially,

Congressman Barrow(D-GA) votes no on Cap&Tax

July 1, 2009

Congressman Barrow

Dear Congressman Barrow,

I would like to thank you for standing up to your own party by voting no on the Cap and Trade legislation recently before the House of Representatives. The pro-business approach has served our district well in the past, and, indeed that approach, along with our excellent technical education, has been a key factor in the outstanding growth of our ports during past years. Portuguese manufacturer EFACEC, in fact, stated these among the many reasons that were considered before selecting our district for their new facility. Opening our arms to businesses will create nearly 500 new jobs. I realize that this contradicts many liberal principals, but we can create jobs and economic growth without growing government.

Many Americans are deeply concerned with the growing trend of Congress approving legislation without knowing the bill’s extent. I hope that you will continue to vote no on any bill that you have not been allowed a reasonable amount of time to read. If the authors push for a vote before a proper debate can be held, it is because they fear that the public will learn the contents. This is not only a slap in my face, but yours as well, Congressman. They are afraid that your constituents will have the time to understand that we are getting the shaft. They rush because they don’t want us to know until it’s too late. I would ask you to remind your fellow members of Congress that the American People are not fools and, although we sometimes elect fools to represent us. We quickly learn from our mistakes.

Congressman Barrow, I am a die-hard conservative, but I think we see eye to eye on a few issues. I applaud your recent vote. It takes fortitude to dissent from ones peers. I understand that a new Value Added Tax is soon to be on the floor. I am holding out hope that we can agree that this is another undue tax on Americans, but at the very least, I ask that you not allow that it be hastened through. Please demand that Congress be allowed to read and debate.

Thank you for taking the time to listen. I hope that I find myself standing along side you and writing more letters of thanks in the future.

Cordially,

William Barlow

Senator Johnny Isakson on Sotomayor's Confirmation

Dear Mr. Barlow:

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the Supreme Court vacancy. I appreciate hearing from you and appreciate the opportunity to respond.

On May 1, 2009, Supreme Court Associate Justice David Souter informed President Obama that he would retire at the end of the court's term in June.  The President has nominated federal appeals Judge Sonia Sotomayor to succeed Justice Souter.   I look forward to a thorough examination and debate of her credentials in the Senate.  I believe a qualified judge is one who understands the value and the strength and the power of the Constitution of the United States of America, who will rule based on the law, and who will not legislate through judicial decisions.  I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind as Judge Sotomayor's nomination progresses.

Thank you again for contacting me.  Please visit my webpage at http://isakson.senate.gov/ for more information on the issues important to you and to sign up for my e-newsletter.

Sincerely,
Johnny Isakson

Letter to Congressman Boehner(Revised)

Dear House Minority Leader Boehner,

It has been brought to my attention that the letter that I sent on June 30, 2009 contained a few errors. Please allow me to correct those.

“The decision by the Attorney General to throw out the conviction of a group of ACORN thugs who pleaded guilty to voter intimidation is laughable. Have you ever in your life, heard of a judge dismissing a case already won? It is nothing short of voter disenfranchisement and Holder should be behind bars.”

The facts of the matter are that the convicted individuals were not members of ACORN, but rather the New Black Panthers. Also, they did not enter a plea of any kind. They were convicted in absentee.

Personally, I don’t know which case is more disturbing. That Attorney General Holder dismissed the conviction of corrupt community organizer thugs, or that he threw out the conviction of an admittedly racist group who didn’t even bother to show up to a hearing is equally disturbing and nothing short of supporting racism and voter disenfranchisement.

Again, thank you for taking the time to read my rant, and keep fighting the good fight. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on these issues.

Letter to Congressman Boehner

June 30, 2009

Dear House Minority Leader Boehner,

I would like to applaud your comments during the limited debate on the new climate bill. Living in the great state of Georgia, I hope that I do not appear in any way out of line in writing to you. When you stated that those who voted for this massive tax sham, I believe you were speaking directly to the Democratic majority, but I would also warn that many Republicans (especially eight of them) should also heed your words.

There is a movement brewing among traditionally GOP supporters. Many of us no longer feel that the GOP supports our base. The World Wide Web is ablaze with a call for the Republican Party to go the way of the Whigs. Our Government has been ransacked by a group of thugs, and very few Republicans are willing to stand up and fight for conservative values. There is a call for a new party of American Conservatives.

The current Congress is bordering on criminal. Voting on legislation without even having taken the time to READ the bill, much less allotting time for proper discussion, is in derelict of the duty, which every single member of our Government has sworn an oath to. Lady Liberty is being raped and our Constitution is being regarded as an irrelevant memo instead of The Supreme Law Of The Land, merely a loosely written and vague set of guidelines.

I cannot conjure the words to explain my disgust in watching Chris Dodd and Barney Frank badger the CEO of AIG, The man was brought out of retirement to revive a defunct investment company for a mere $1.00 annual salary, to have the fortitude to sit there and take that blatant badgering escapes may ability of rational thought. They even had me fooled. How dare that b**tard take the hard-earned money of taxpayers to award bonuses to the very people responsible for running the company into the ground? That thief! No less than a despicable excuse for a human being. Days later we learn that it was Dodd himself who penned the addendum REQUIRING the CEO to give those bonuses. Congressman, this is unacceptable. There was a time when the perpetrator of such an outrage would be swiftly met with a vat of tar and a sack of feathers. Now it is brushed aside as normal Washington politics.

It is utterly appalling that Sotomayor is even being considered for confirmation to the Supreme Court. She is a racist who has had four of her six rulings on the 2nd Circuit overturned. The woman has proven time and again to be a failure in her understanding the Constitution.

The decision by the Attorney General to throw out the conviction of a group of ACORN thugs who pleaded guilty to voter intimidation is laughable. Have you ever in your life, heard of a judge dismissing a case already won? It is nothing short of voter disenfranchisement and Holder should be behind bars.

There are many more people who believe as I do. The problem is that if someone doesn’t stand up and take the reigns, we will neither be voting Democrat or Republican. We will, instead, be seeking a new party to lead us from the tyranny and thuggery being instituted by the Progressive-Socialist movement.

Again, Congressman Boehner, I applaud your candor and strait-forwardness. We desperately need more people like you. We also need you to do more. Continue to speak out on these issues. Speak louder. Do not allow your thoughts to be brushed aside. We are ready to follow. We simply lack a leader. I leave you with a passage from Cicero, of which I think speaks volumes about the state of our Government

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."

Cordially,

William Barlow

The Reply part III

Dear Mr. Barlow:

Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns with the some of the actions of the Obama Administration. I appreciate your thoughts and the opportunity to respond.

The American people are facing difficult times. We are confronting difficult economic circumstances. The solution to our economic struggles is not to dramatically increase government spending, raise taxes on American families and businesses, and put our nation deeper in debt.  That's absolutely the wrong answer. We must alleviate the tax burden placed on our citizens, not increase it. We must stop the reckless spending.

The fiscally irresponsible agenda currently running amok in Washington is threatening job creation and economic growth. This type of spending is unsustainable and ultimately creates debt that will fall on the backs of future generations and inevitably will lead to higher taxes on all Americans.  History has proven that the most effective way to lead our nation out of economic crisis is to cut federal spending and cut taxes on all Americans to provide incentives for them to reengage in the economic process. It is only then that I believe that our nation will return as the world greatest economic engine.

That is why I could not support President Obama's $3.5 trillion Fiscal Year 2010 budget. This budget increases discretionary spending by $490 billion over the next five years and adds $4.96 trillion to the gross national debt. It also raises taxes by $361 billion and allows for another $1.3 trillion in additional tax increases.  Despite my vote against it, the Senate passed this budget resolution by a vote of 55-43.

I also could not support the second release of funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program, known as TARP, because I strongly disagreed with how the Administration was spending the money. Specifically, I was disappointed to see these taxpayer funds used to make direct investments in banks and other financial institutions. I was also very angered that some of these institutions that received taxpayer dollars later doled out hefty bonuses and hosted lavish retreats.

The role of the Obama Administration in the firing of General Motors CEO Richard Wagoner was very troubling. It is a slippery slope when the federal government takes such a strong role in the running of a private company. Decisions on the leadership of a private company should be left to the shareholders and board of directors. I also opposed giving TARP funds to the auto industry because I continue to believe that a structured chapter 11 bankruptcy, similar to the 2005 Delta Airlines bankruptcy, is the best option and will allow these automakers to emerge more profitable and financially stable.

I am also concerned at the way the Administration is seeking to use parliamentary maneuvers to pass a nationalized health care system and a cap-and-trade energy tax with as little debate as possible. These are two critical issues to our country that need and deserve a thorough debate so that all sides can be heard. It is unfair to all Americans for either of these issues to be rushed through Congress.

I will continue to stand up for the preservation of basic principles and values that have made the United States the greatest nation in the world. We must work to enact policies that promote new growth and opportunity and that inject the federal government in the private market only minimally and temporarily.

Thank you again for contacting me.  Please visit my webpage at http://isakson.senate.gov/ for more information on the issues important to you and to sign up for my e-newsletter.

Johnny Isakson

The Reply part II

This is John Barrow.  Thanks for your e-mail about the recent Senate Confirmation hearings.  Under the Constitution, the Senate, not the House of Representatives decides whether Cabinet nominees are confirmed or not.  Therefore, as a Member of the House of Representatives, I cannot vote to confirm or deny any of the President's nominees. Thanks again for caring enough to get involved, and please don't hesitate to contact me again in the future with other questions or concerns.  If you have any further questions about this matter please call my Legislative Correspondent, Chris Baggett.  You can call him at 1-202-225-2823, anytime between 9 in the morning and 6 in the evening.  We hope to talk with you soon.

Thanks again-

The Reply part I

Dear Mr. Barlow:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor.  It is good to hear from you.

On May 28th, 2009, President Obama nominated Judge Sonia Sotomayor to be Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United StatesThe Senate has confirmed Ms. Sotomayor twice, first when named to the district court in New York under President George H.W. Bush and later when appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit by President Bill Clinton.

I have consistently stated that Supreme Court nominees must not engage in legislating from the bench, but instead interpret the laws as they have been passed. The Senate deserves an appropriate amount of time to review this nominee. I look forward to a dignified and thorough debate on Ms. Sotomayor's nomination and will keep your comments in mind when her nomination comes before the full Senate for a vote.

Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court

June 20, 2009
Dear Congressman Barrow,

Much has been written about Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court, but there are a couple of issues I find persuasive enough to convince me she’s not qualified to be confirmed to the position.

If you read this article you’ll find the following:

“Republicans had complained that Sotomayor initially omitted from the records she sent the Senate Judiciary Committee a report she signed urging the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund to oppose reinstitution of the death penalty in New York in the early 1980s.

“The report, which has since been provided, said, ‘Capital punishment is associated with evident racism in our society.’ It noted that African-Americans at the time made up 47 percent of death row inmates, but only 11 percent of the U.S. population.”

Using that same “logic”, we can make the following argument: males comprise a little less than 50 percent of American society, but almost 100 percent of inmates convicted of rape. Therefore, American society is clearly sexist in favor of females. Obviously, an absurd proposition, because the fact is that males commit virtually 100% of the rapes in this country.

The reality is that Blacks commit 52% of the homicides in this country according to the US Department of Justice (DOJ report) and thus are actually statistically UNDER-REPRESENTED in the death row population.

Sotomayor’s “reasoning” in the referenced report clearly ignores simple facts and logic, instead relying on emotional rhetoric to find support for the liberal canard of institutionalized racism, in an effort to advance a major plank of the liberal agenda. Why would one think she wouldn’t continue to do the same while serving on the bench? She managed to find “racism” where none exists, just as Roe v. Wade managed to find a constitutional “right to privacy” that exists nowhere in the actual Constitution.

This bias in favor of the liberal agenda over proper judicial action is also clearly illustrated in her opinion in the case Maloney v. Cuomo. This case was decided several months after the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) had issued its finding in the case DC v. Heller. In his opinion for the majority (the operative and definitive aspect) Scalia clearly and specifically wrote that the precedent of Presser v. Illinois didn’t apply to the individual right to own handguns (at issue in the Maloney case):

"None of the Court’s precedents forecloses the Court’s interpretation. Neither United States v. Cruikshank, 92 U. S. 542, 553, nor Presser v. Illinois, 116 U. S. 252, 264–265, refutes the individual rights interpretation."

Scalia continues: "We are aware of the problem of handgun violence in this country, and we take seriously the concerns raised by the many amici who believe that prohibition of handgun ownership is a solution. ... But the enshrinement of constitutional rights necessarily takes certain policy choices off the table. These include the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home."

Sotomayor, however (and in complete defiance of Heller), wrote: “And to the extent that Heller might be read to question the continuing validity of this principle, we must follow Presser because where, as here, a Supreme Court precedent has direct application in a case, yet appears to rest on reasons rejected in some other line of decisions, the Court of Appeals should follow the case which [it] directly controls.”

In other words, Sotomayor is telling SCOTUS and Scalia that she’s refusing to follow the direction clearly set by the Heller case. This is judicial arrogance and activism of the highest and worst order.

The two issues I’ve raised in this essay, in and of themselves, are enough to convince me she’s not qualified to be confirmed to the Supreme Court. Frankly, I think they disqualify her from the bench at any level. I don’t have any idea why this hasn’t been raised as an objection to her appointment, but it hasn’t.
Cordially,

William Barlow

A Call to Arms

June 18, 2009

Dear Mr. Gingrich,

For many years you have been a champion for conservative values, a proud Georgian, and a stringent voice of reason in an increasingly cloudy political mess. I applaud the fact that you have been blunt and out-spoken in the defense of our Constitution. We need more people like you, Mr. Gingrich. There is a new conservative movement dawning on the horizon. We have smelled the winds of “change” and they are decidedly foul. We have tasted the fruits of false “hope” and discovered them to be rotten. We are gathering and we are organizing. We are only lacking in one aspect. We need a leader.

We The People are ready to take our nation and our God given liberties back with the power of the ballot. We The People deserve a better class of representation. For too long have we watched those who would seek to woo our votes cower in the shadows of tough opposition. For too long have we seen our freedoms eroded away by the socialist movement for collectivism.  For too long has the wool of the RINOs in sheep’s clothing been pulled over our eyes.  We deserve a better class of leadership.

Mr. Gingrich, I call on you for action. I know that you have flirted with the idea of running for office in 2012. Stand up and shout from the mountain that yes, you will lead us, and we will follow you. Visit www.townhall.com. Bear your self to our forum in the blogs and you will know that there are many more who share my sentiments. There is no time to waste. We are ready. We just need someone to lead us.

Cordially,

William Barlow

A letter to Senator Isackson(R) GA

June 18, 2009

Dear Senator Isakson,

I would like to begin by thanking you for your many years of public service. You have stood firmly by the conservative values held by many Georgians. However, I am concerned that our voice is not being heard as strongly as we would like. Our Great Nation is running headlong towards a state of socialism and government dependency.

The Federal Government has nationalized the banking and auto industries, and is speeding towards state run health care. What’s next? What choice will government take from the citizens next? Americans and Georgians alike deserve a strong voice to oppose these measures. Will you be that voice?

The left are trying to paint conservatives and constitutionalist as “domestic terrorists,” and no one has come to our defense. The mainstream media, increasingly reminiscent of the state run media of the former Soviet Union, is making every attempt to assist those in power to silence us, but I assure you, Senator, there are many of us who would follow if only someone would stand up and lead us.

There should be full investigations of Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi, and Barack Obama. These people are trotting roughshod upon the U.S. Constitution and covering it up by labeling any opposition “enemies of the state.” We The People deserve a leader who would remind the government of times when questioning government was a healthy thing and not something to be brushed lightly aside.

I understand you have entertained the idea of running for Governor. I wish you the best of luck, but at the same time, I would have you know that I will be sending similar letters to all of those seeking that office. I am sending letters to all of my elected representatives and am encouraging others to do so as well. I would like to extend to you an invitation to join the discussion on my blog at http://truthandlogic.blogtownhall.com/. We are un-organized, and searching for strong leaders. We are tired of being governed rather than being represented.

Cordially,

William Barlow

Letter to the President

June 17, 2009

President Barack Obama

Dear President Barack Obama,

I would like to extend to you an invitation to my blog at http://truthandlogic.blogtownhall.com . I, along with many others, am deeply concerned with the direction that our nation is headed. I think it would be fair to inform you that I did not vote for you. I do not support many of your policies. I reserved heavy doubts as to whether you could deliver on many of the talking points used during your campaign. The old cliché “too good to be true” came to mind during many of your speeches, speeches that contained many words, while saying very little.

You made many promises that I hoped you would be able to deliver; yet you have come up well short of my expectations.

You promised Transparency in Government, yet you have rushed through the largest spending bills in the history of the Nation. Bills and a budget that people of your own administration has admittedly not read fully. When the Senate and House finance chair people do not know the details of a spending bill, how do you expect the people to trust you? Even your Treasury Secretary claimed to have no idea regarding the bonus provision. This is not transparency and is unacceptable.

You promised no new taxes on incomes under $250,000, yet you propose new tax legislation on many of the goods and services that I use on a daily basis. All this in an effort to fund programs which are unpopular among the citizens.

You claim that you have no intention of running America’s auto industry and banking sectors. Allow me to clue you in. When you can tell the CEO to take a hike, you are in charge, and by being in charge, you also hold a certain responsibility. AIG in particular, you fired the CEO, hand picked the new CEO, and, with a strait face, claim to not know how the TARP money has been spent. How can you expect me to support more TARP on your word alone?

I am a United States citizen, not the “right wing nut” threat that Homeland Security would have you believe. I believe deeply in the Constitution. It is not only my right, but also my responsibility as an American to question the motives of those who would govern me. Individual responsibility is a concept that has been somehow been replaced by government dependency.

I am sending similar invitations to all of my elected officials. I hope that you will come and debate your policies among the populace. We The People deserve more than planned and scripted speeches full of talking points derived from focus groups designed to tell us what we want to hear. We The People want the truth, no sugar added.

Cordially,

William Barlow

The Letter

As my first post, I'd like to relay the following letter which was sent to Glen Beck.
I'm a home grown American citizen, 53, registered Democrat all my life. Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now. You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me?

Well, these are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation:

One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This isn't to be confused with legal immigration.

Two, the TARP bill, I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.

Three: Czars, I want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.

Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say.

Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down!

Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don't you start there.

Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes. Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate.

Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want me to hate my employers? Why -- what do you have against shareholders making a profit?

Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.

Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band-Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.

Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try -- please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.

Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now.

Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let's just slow down and get some input from some nonpoliticians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law. I am not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant or a violent person. I am a parent and a grandparent. I work. I'm busy. I'm busy. I am busy, and I am tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave.

I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all of the recent spending.

From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington. Our president often knows all the right buzzword is unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons.

We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work , pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you. You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn't ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us when hewill rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.

Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don't care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now. We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back. We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired. Did you hear? We no longer care about your political parties. You need to be loyal to us, not to them. Because we will get you fired and they will not save you. If you do or can represent me, my issues, my views, please stand up. Make your identity known. You need to make some noise about it. Speak up. I need to know who you are. If you do not speak up, you will be herded out with the rest of the sheep and we will replace the whole damn congress if need be one by one. We are coming. Are we coming for you? Who do you represent? What do you represent? Listen. Because we are coming. We the people are coming.

I view this as a call to action for all Americans. Find out who your elected officials are. Find out who their competetion is going to be for the next election cycle. Invite them to your blog. Let them see that we are organizing. Challenge them to defend their policies, and let them know that their job is on the line.

Tell them that WE THE PEOPLE are comming.
